She made her film debut at the age of 6 alongside Sean Penn in the drama I Am Sam, and appeared all grown-up earlier this year with Kristen Stewart in the 70’s punk-rock epic The Runaways, but Dakota Fanning insists she is still taking her time when it comes to choosing adult movie roles.

“When you start out young, people get really attached to who you are at 6 years old,” Fanning says in the August issue of Marie Claire, on stands now. “I hope that The Runaways was kind of a moment to be like, ‘You know, I’m not that young little girl anymore, but I’m still not all grown up, either.’”

With a busy year ahead, including finishing up high school at North Hollywood’s prestigious Campbell Hall as well as wrapping the final two Twilight films, Fanning is looking forward to the future, but still enjoying the present. “As you get older, there’s so much more that you can do in films,” she says. “I’ve never wanted to rush that; I’ve always wanted to do what’s right for my age, but as you approach 18, a whole new world opens up to you as an actor, and I really look forward to that.”

Apart from the Twilight films, Dakota reportedly has two other projects in the works.
