Yesterday, i went and saw the Runaways with Kristen Stewart as Joan Jett and Dakota Fanning as Cheri Currie. In the photo, kristen and dakota are on the far right. So, i paid my $7.50 ticket and bought my $3.50 chewy sweet-tarts and watched the runaways (first time i got to show my i.d. to a rated r film!)
The movie is set in 1975. It is mostly centered around Cherrie Currie and how she came from a family of an older sister, a drunk dad, and a mom living in Indonesia with her new fiance. She, like Joan Jett, want to break free from the typical lives of woman. Joan Jett, is found having a life full of drugs and drinking, while trying to become a female electric guitarist, which at that time was unheard of.
While outside a club, Joan meets Kim Farrely, a music endorser god, and from there, Joan was determined to make an all female rock band. Eventually, Joan meets Cheri at a dance club and from there, the band was made.
Overall: im sad to say this, but this was a typical rock n roll movie. The band starts, they have a great time when they are a hit, and then comes the drugs and the band splits. Suprisenly, the movie was centered around Cheri and how she went downhill with drugs and then wanted out. Plus, the singing of Kristen and Dakota was okay, nothing bad. My favorite part of the movie was in the end when they showed Kristen Stewart as Joan Jett in the 80s in joan’s iconic pink sportsjacket and makeup featuring Joan’s real “i love rock n roll” and “crimson and clover” songs.
Tips: if you are in the rock n roll mood…watch it…but be prepared…its rated r for a reason. medium sexual content and not so much bad stuff about the drugs.
my score: B
