even though the nm soundtrack was on a depressive note (i love nothing but the wind and white demon love song), its it on the top of the charts:

“THE TWILIGHT SAGA: NEW MOON-ORIGINAL MOTION PICTURE SOUNDTRACK” rises this week on the Billboard 200, ranking #8 and selling more than 93,000 units in its sixth week on sale. The soundtrack, which debuted in October, has also received RIAA platinum certification for sales exceeding 1 million units. “THE TWILIGHT SAGA: NEW MOON” soundtrack, which peaked at #1 in its first full week in stores and online, made history as the first time ever a soundtrack and its sequel have both reached the #1 spot on the chart. In addition, the soundtrack has remained in the top 10 on the Billboard 200 since its release.

The musical companion to the highly anticipated second installment of Summit Entertainment’s film franchise features exclusive tracks from some of modern music’s most gifted and admired artists, including Thom Yorke, Muse, The Killers, Anya Marina, and Death Cab for Cutie, who contributed the album’s first single, “Meet Me On the Equinox.” The track is currently #8 at Modern Rock radio.

In other news, “TWILIGHT-ORIGINAL MOTION PICTURE SOUNDTRACK” took home the award for Favorite Soundtrack at this year’s American Music Awards. “TWILIGHT” has currently sold more than 2.3 million copies in the U.S. alone and over 3.5 million copies worldwide. The soundtrack has remained on the Billboard 200 for 55 consecutive weeks.

THE TWILIGHT SAGA: NEW MOON topped the box office this past weekend, pulling in $142.8 million in North America and marking the third biggest opening weekend ever. The film also ranks as the best single opening day ever in North America as well as the best grossing for midnight shows ever at $26.3 million.

New Moon’s Special Effects

Special effects innovator Phil Tippett talks about his work on the special effects required to create New Moon!

Q: Which movie had tighter security on the set, “Return of the Jedi” or “New Moon”?

A: For “Return of the Jedi,” I was totally oblivious to all the fandom. I didn’t notice anything, and most of the work was done on pretty secured sets. For “New Moon,” it was unbelievable.

It was like a CIA operation. Some of the locations we would go to, the production would be so concerned about fooling the paparazzi, they would take the arrows pointing to the location and turn them the other way. We were actually getting lost.

Q: Did you do much wolf-related research for the movie?

A: We nailed it down early that these were not going to be traditional beast-y horror movie things. … We watched a lot of documentaries and looked at every single picture book out there on wolves.

My co-supervisor, Matt Jacobs, took a bunch of the art department and animators to a wolf preserve outside of Los Angeles. They got into a pen about the size of this room with about 10 wolves and just spent the afternoon with them.
